Wolf Creek Academy Builds Trust with Struggling Teens

Wolf Creek Staff Build Relationships and Trust with Struggling Teens

therapeutic boarding schoolAs many parenting advisors will tell you, every teen is an individual with a unique personality. And even if your teen withdraws from you emotionally or seems troubled, your teen still needs to spend quality time with you and to feel loved by you. But when the situation at home, with friends, or at school adds too many distractions to your teen’s problems, then it may be time to pull your teen out of that environment.

Your teen may be better able to isolate and address their problems without distraction, judgment, or interference. We’re a boarding school with experienced staff that will take the time to get to know your teen’s personal needs and offer beneficial counseling whether your teen struggles with anger, disrespect, learning disabilities, depression, anxiety, or trauma. The Wolf Creek Academy team provides needed behavioral counseling and instills integrity, accountability, responsibility, and character through our program.

When a young teen enrolls at Wolf Creek Academy, one thing that we focus on is to “get off the porch” and building relationships with that teen. By stepping out of our normal routines and interacting with students in everyday moments, our staff builds trust with a teen. We earn the right to speak into their lives, inviting them to change and become the best versions of themselves.

Our staff shares daily activities with the students, like playing gaga ball, kickball, soccer, basketball, football, or frisbee. Or we play, listen to or write music with them. We may take out crayons, markers, chalk, or paint and draw, craft, or do other projects with them. It is not what we do that matters; it’s when we take to do things with students that let them know they are so important to us and care deeply about them.

Our staff also plans off-campus adventures with our students. We purposefully build these types of events into our monthly calendar. We “get off the porch” and challenge ourselves right alongside the students as we go: zip lining, white water rafting, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, spelunking, horseback riding, rock climbing, or take a trip on an old-fashioned railroad train. Sharing these experiences helps teens understand and live out the values we teach at Wolf Creek and builds personal self-esteem.

Students at Wolf Creek Academy also learn about setting daily goals and work toward accomplishing their goals, using techniques designed specifically for them. Academically, WCA teachers show them how living intentionally, and with purpose, teens can achieve their set goals and earn middle or high school credits. Students also experience educational concepts hands-on while spending time with staff outdoors, “beyond the porch.”

At Wolf Creek Academy, we strive to help families in need by thorough evaluation and counseling for the child and family.
