About

therapeutic boarding schoolWolf Creek Academy specializes in helping teenagers who are experiencing behavioral difficulties, anger, depression, attachment disorders, or who are participating in self-harm or have diminishing academic performance due to trauma in their life. We also treat social issues, disrespect, ODD, ADD, and ADHD, while providing a safe haven for teens and a self-paced school to help them get caught up academically.

A Nurturing Environment

girls on campusWolf Creek Academy provides a nurturing homelike environment for adolescents who have lost sight of a clear and positive future. Our typical students are quite capable of becoming mature and dependable young adults if given the proper motivation and direction, outside of the influences in their life that have caused them to go into a downward spiral. In our program, teens are able to reach their highest potential through the tools and education we provide. Many of our students are gifted and are given the opportunity to be challenged with advanced courses. The majority of the students who enroll in our program continue their education in college upon completion.

Adventure Therapy

One thing that sets Wolf Creek Academy apart from other therapeutic boarding schools is its use of Adventure Therapy. Adventure therapy provides a therapeutic context in the midst of an indoor or outdoor activity where we give our students opportunities to apply the things they have been learning in individual and group counseling.

Adventure therapy uses outdoor activities involving risk and physical and emotional challenges. Adventure Therapy usually refers to primitive methods in wilderness contexts requiring adaptation or the ability to cope. Outdoor experiential therapy is an outdoor treatment to promote “rehabilitation, growth, development, and enhancement of an individual’s physical, social, and psychological well-being through the application of structured activities involving direct experience”. Adventure therapy includes the use of adventure activities supported by traditional therapy. Often, adventure therapy is conducted in a group or family context, though increasingly, adventure therapy is being used with individuals.

Adventure therapy approaches psychological treatment through experience and action within cooperative games, trust activities, problem-solving initiatives, high adventure, outdoor pursuits, and wilderness expeditions. One can view challenges as significant in eliciting desired behavioral changes. Positive behavior changes, which are synonymous with psychological healing, can occur through various processes.

therapeutic boarding schoolAt Wolf Creek Academy, our therapy team works with the Director of Adventure Groups to help create adventure group experiences related to how each young teen responds to challenges and life at home. These adventure therapy activities involve real or perceived risk—physically and emotionally—and provide teens with a safe setting to practice decision-making, problem-solving, and collaboration. Through this process, a teen can learn about healthy coping skills and self-expression, plus identify personal anxiety triggers when confronted by difficult situations in their everyday lives. When a young teen suffers from past trauma or a mental disorder, adventure therapy can help him, or her develop interpersonal skills, including trust, communication, and setting boundaries.

Wolf Creek AcademyAnother benefit of adventure therapy at Wolf Creek Academy is that it helps teens engage in and relate to past experiences. It also helps adolescents heal by providing exciting growth and self-understanding of their personal strengths and weaknesses. As they face danger and move ahead, they gain self-confidence, which prepares them to overcome future difficulties.

In adventure therapy, teens also learn what it means to be accountable for their actions as you work as part of a team. Each teen sees how they make individually and with other group members connect directly with the consequences of their adventure. And sharing these outcomes helps teens open up to one another. Building healthy relationships with our staff and other students at Wolf Creek Academy through adventure therapy also benefits each teen as they deal with family relationships.

Serving the students and families of Wolf Creek Academy binds us together with a shared purpose! And we come together to forge healthy relationships that lead to successful family restoration. That’s our goal and purpose, and adventure therapy helps young teens struggling with various emotional and behavioral problems come to a new understanding of themselves and one another.

Wolf Creek Academy Academics

At Wolf Creek Academy, academics are more than just coursework—they are a catalyst for reigniting each student’s passion for learning and self-discovery.

We meet each student exactly where they are. Instead of pushing every learner through a standardized mold, we take the time to identify educational gaps and create a path forward that builds confidence and competence. By forming meaningful relationships with our students, we tailor instruction to align with their personal interests, learning styles, and long-term goals—making education not just accessible, but deeply relevant.

Our educators emphasize the power of daily goal-setting, helping students replace passivity with purpose. For many, life has felt like something that just “happens” to them. We challenge that mindset by teaching them to live with clarity and direction. With the right support and structure, they begin to see that they’re capable of more—academically and personally—than they ever imagined.

Setting daily academic goals serves as a practical foundation for success. Students are guided to break down larger learning objectives into manageable, measurable steps, cultivating a sense of accomplishment each day. This process doesn’t just prioritize tasks—it instills discipline, confidence, and momentum.

At Wolf Creek Academy, we understand that every student learns differently. That’s why we design individualized strategies that help each one set realistic targets, take meaningful action, and experience steady, personalized growth. With each goal achieved, they move closer to discovering their full potential.

We are recognized as a Private School by the North Carolina Department of Non-Public Education. Our accreditation is via dual-enrollment with Lighthouse Christian Academy, Nashville, TN. Our school is on-site where the students learn in a small class environment offering individualized attention.

Our program offers a unique blend of therapeutic techniques and outdoor adventure activities, fostering both mental and physical well-being while helping individuals reconnect with themselves and the world around them. We can help your struggling teen. We have a limited number of placements available, so please call us today!
